A space to write or cry

For Cavafy

The poems are sad and short: love half-remembered,
history--beautiful, closed, and Greek.
But what I like best
is the blank three-quarters page,
white as a statue's marble eyes--

a space to write or cry.

Constantine P. Cavafy, also known as Konstantin or Konstantinos Petrou Kavafis, or Kavaphes (April 29, 1863 – April 29, 1933) was a renowned Greek poet who lived in Alexandria and worked as a journalist and civil servant.

For you, M (http://southwestsun.wordpress.com) who always remembers to show appreciation when she likes something I share. Silence is a more common reaction :)  Thank you so much.
